Inspired by Mayan and colonial art, Ana Maria begins the search for a style of her own to express her message: Spiritual peace and the joy of living. In this period she evolves very quickly, painting regional landscapes, fields of flowers, mores scenes with architectonic ideas, all executed with great precision.

During this period, Ana María seeks to evolve with other concepts and paints works which always contain walls, with this she expresses the technical difficulties that she need to overcome. She paints many animals, mainly bees, that represent the hard work needed to achieve success.

In this period, Ana Maria let go her casual primitivism and goes inside the creation of harmonious and sophisticated shapes. Her compositions are a blend of high reality elements with flowers of rare splendor, fruits and erupting volcanoes. From this age it is published a book along with works from Salvadorean poetess Claudia Lars (Carmen Brannon).

Since early in the nineties, Ana Maria has been developing a novel technique using acrylic colors and wax, enabling her to paint images of great transparency and accomplish that unique finishing. In her paintings of theaters, very modern still lifes and other compositions, Ana María wishes to express the abundance of this world in this point in time: the growth of people, traffic, the high production, lights, sounds and everything that affect us in our ordinary lives. By this principle, sometimes, some of her compositions almost touch the borders of opulence, although always keeping their elegance and harmony. With a calm observation of her paintings we can discover the feeling of belonging to an age of metaphysical ideas containing a heavy dose of symbolism.
In close observation of Ana Maria's "oranges", we discover the absence of a pretension to make a photographic copy of the natural fruit. They are a surrealist creation, a rational composition made of dots, blurs, spots, lights and shadows.... As we retreat ourselves and look again we finally enter the world of magical hyperrealism of Ana María, a reality only existing in her imagination, which is given to us, elegantly, showing also her profound knowledge and use of chiaroscuro. A similar thing happens when we gaze upon her "grapes"...if we look at them with one eye only we´ll see again that magical world, and we are faced with those grapes in three dimensions, with all their splendor...and, likewise, every painting holds its secrets...
